AR Future Projects awards
Launched in 2002, the AR Future Projects awards are a window into tomorrow’s cities. Spanning 13 categories, they celebrate excellence in unbuilt and incomplete projects, and the potential for positive contribution to communities, neighbourhoods and urban landscapes around the world.
AR Emerging awards
Launched in 1999, the AR Emerging awards grant early recognition to young designers and celebrate the architectural stars of tomorrow. Previous winners have included Shigeru Ban, Carla Juaçaba, Thomas Heatherwick and Frida Escobedo. While the AR can take no credit for their individual talents, the award galvanised the success of these designers by promoting them on a global stage.
New into Old awards
As the need for sustainable alternatives to building anew becomes increasingly urgent, the New into Old awards celebrate the creative ways buildings are adapted and remodelled to welcome new contemporary uses. Launched in 2017, the awards recognise the imaginative appropriation of existing structures, from innovative insertions to ambitious adaptations.
AR Public awards
Public space is a stage for human life, a place of democracy and collectivity. Open, accessible and abundant public space is crucial to the civic health of our cities and shared landscapes – a critical communal resource. As these spaces become increasingly threatened in the face of darkening commercial and political forces, the biennial AR Public awards recognise the importance of creating, rescuing and renovating public spaces.
AR House
Launched in 2010, the AR House awards recognises originality and excellence in the design of dwellings. The house – a key rite of passage for architects – offers the potential for innovation and is critical to the ferment and crystallisation of new ideas. Looking for projects built in the last five years, AR House recognises creativity and originality, and ideas that push the type forward whatever the scale and construction cost. The judges’ chosen schemes will all be visited by an independent critic and photographer before a decision is made on the winner.
